Pumping Supertubes is on every surfer’s Top 10 list.

That’s right, the JBU Supertrial presented by RVCA will decide the wildcard into this year’s J-Bay Open, and the Supertrial is open to ANY South African surfer.

Well, you’ll need to earn your entry first. 24 Surfers will be selected to compete in the 2015 JBU Supertrial, and to get yourself in the running you’ll need to submit your entry via the official contest portal. Entries can be submitted either as a short video showing your mastery in the surf, a collection of your best photos, a letter of motivation, or all of the above.

You’ve got to be in it to win it.

A panel of judges consisting of representatives from the World Surf League (WSL), The JBay Underground Surf Club (JBU) and Zigzag will then review all the entries received, before making their decision as to who’ll be awarded the 24 available slots.

THE JBU SUPERTRIAL PRESENTED BY RVCA – HOW TO ENTER

Jeffreys Bay – The 2015 JBU Supertrial presented by RVCA will see 24 selected surfers competing for one coveted position into the WSL Championship Tour’s JBay Open, where they’ll compete against the best surfers on the planet.

The JBU Supertrial presented by RVCA has a waiting period of 1-12 June, and the organisers of the event have announced the entry procedure for this contest. The entry requirements are strict, and have to be adhered to implicitly in order to be in with a chance of an invite into the contest.

Firstly, surfers need to physically enter the event. You will not be automatically invited into the event based on your surfing skills or contest record unless you physically enter the event. No entry, no invite.

Secondly, all entries will be via the Zigzag magazine website www.zigzag.co.za/supertrial/ – there is no other platform through which to enter.

The aim of your entry is to try and convince the selectors why you are worthy of a slot into the Supertrial. This can be in the form of a video clip, a photo of yourself ripping, a video interview wherein you state your case, a few written paragraphs that will explain your worthiness, or any other form or fancy that you believe will get you entry into the event. Put some effort in, and you might find yourself with an entry into the most prestigious event on the South African surf calendar.

“We want to see why you feel you are worthy to be in such a significant event,” said event organiser and JBU representative Koffie Jacobs. “We simply want the best 24 South African surfers in the event, the cream of the crop, and we need to work out who you guys are. It’s up to you to tell us.”

Final selection will be via a panel, consisting of representatives from the World Surf League (WSL), The JBay Underground Surf Club (JBU) and Zigzag Surfing Magazine. The Supertrial is only open to South African surfers.

Social Media is a great way to get attention to your entry, but your Social Media reach has no bearing on your selection. An entry with thousands of likes and shares does not automatically trump an entry with very little Social Media reach. This Social Media reach will reveal to the selectors however, which of the entries are popular with the public, and this might serve to influence them. There will be 24 surfers selected to compete in the tournament this year.

The JBU Supertrial presented by RVCA is sanctioned by Surfing South Africa. Surfing South Africa is a member of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), and recognised by the Dept. of Sport and Recreation as the national controlling body for surfing.

The JBU Supertrial presented by RVCA precedes the JBay Open Championship Tour event, which is the anchor event of the JBay Winterfest.
