Last year we introduced Christian Surfers and their efforts to lend a hand in developing the growing surf scene in Namibia.
For the past three years the amped crew from J-Bay have been visiting Nam to host the annual Namibian Surf Week in partnership with local action sport business, Element Riders. The aim behind the week of non-stop surf action is to further develop the sport of surfing, unite the grassroots surf community, and encourage the local surfers.
The hosted surf lessons are a welcomed part of Christian Surfers’ mission to Namibia.
Part of the week-long itinerary included taking a handful of stoked Nam groms on a surf trip out of town. A day was also spent hosting surf lessons for those keen to learn to master the waves, before the week ended with the third annual Swakop Pro Surf Contest. The event is always hotly-contested by the local rippers, who are amped on the chance to win some of the R20,000 in prize money (as well as show their peers what they’ve got in their bag of surfing tricks).
Local shredder, Shaun Loubser, smashes the lip at Guns during the Swakop Pro.
Fun times all round, and a rad initiative to see.
Read Christian Surfers’ blog for all the details of a stoke-filled week in Namibia.
