Since their formation last year, the South African Surfing Legends organisation have busied themselves fulfilling their mission statement; “To inspire, develop and mentor future generations of South African surfers through the celebration of our rich surfing heritage”.
The 2015 SA Junior squad, ready for camp (January 2015).
They hosted the South African Junior Team Selection Camp in January this year, providing airfares, accommodation and meals for the 18 boys and 10 girls who attended the camp. They also made possible the SA vs France Shootout in February. This week, South African Surfing Legends announced that they will be launching a high performance academy – focussed on raising the game of our best Junior competitors.
“For decades, South Africa was a major surfing force,” reads the press release. “Our aim is to re-establish that status and create a winning culture for future generations.”
By offering coaching, fitness training, clinical psychology, dietetics, biokinetics, physiotherapy, as well as other subsidiary services to SA’s brightest young surfing talents, the South African Surfing Legends Academy aims to achieve this goal.
To raise funds for the academy, South African Surfing Legends will be presenting a Charity Gala Dinner at the Elangeni Hotel on Tuesday, 12 May. Aaron Mcilroy will be the MC for the evening, while the key-note speaker and special guest needs little introduction, because his feats are legendary; Shaun Tomson will be joining the rest of the South African Surfing Legends at the Gala Dinner. You can book either a table or a seat to show your support.
Check out the press release below for all the details.
