RIVAL SURF CLUBS SET TO CLASH AT LIZZARD/HURRICANE SURF SESSION

Beyrick
Beyrick de Vries is flying back from Hawaii to represent Wave Wizards this weekend.

The annual Lizzard/Hurricane Surf Session has had a record number of entries to date and is shaping up to be one of the biggest events on the SA surf calendar for 2014. The event has attracted top pro surfers as well as young novice beginners and is presented in association with Surfing South Africa. The competition also forms part of the 2014 Umhlanga Summer Festival.

The highlight of the competition will be the tag team event, which will see five teams from various surf clubs along the KZN coastline take part on 14 December. Each team must consist of at least one lady surfer plus four men, and they will be competing for the R10 000 first prize presented by Just Juice.

The teams will each have one hour in which all five surfers have two waves counting to an overall total. Surfers have to run back to their demarcated ‘box’ on the beach before the next surfer can paddle out. All surfers have to be back over the line within the time limit to avoid penalties.

CHanelle
Chanelle Botha will be ripping for the Warner Boyz Surf Club.

Warner Boyz Surf Club from Warner Beach have entered Josh Smit, Mikey Venter, Gary Van Wierengen, Frankie Oberholzer and Chanelle Botha as their team members.

The Scottburgh Skulls Surf Club will be represented by Casey Grant, Gavin Roberts, Jason Harris, Dingo Russell and Sarah Baum.

North Swell Surf Club from Durban has Brandon Jackson, Chad du Toit, Davey Van Zyl, Chris Frolich and Nicole Pallet set to represent.

Jaco
Jaco Kapp will be showing his skills for North Coast Boardriders.

North Coast Boardriders from Salt Rock meanwhile, will have Jaco Kapp, Richard Kidd, Allan Johns, Bevan Willis and Sophie Bell flying the flag for their team.

Host club and fierce rivals Wave Wizards will be putting a strong team together including; Beyrick de Vries, Dan Redman, Chris Leppan, Shane Sykes and Teal Hogg.

Chairman of Wave Wizards, Jestyn Viljoen was excited about the prospect. “Surfers get really passionate about their clubs and it is very entertaining to see how serious they get when shouting for their team mates out in the water to catch a wave,” said Jestyn. “Beachgoers will definitely see a different side to surfing, and we are thrilled with the number of entries we have had so far.”
