The ninth attack in the past seven years has claimed the life of a 72 year-old Austrian tourist at Second Beach, Port St Johns.
According to the report on the NSRI website, the attack occurred at approximately 15h00 this afternoon, Saturday 22 March, after which a volunteer sea rescue crew were dispatched to Second Beach.
Upon arriving at the scene they discovered that the body of the victim was already handed over to the SA Police Services, who were in turn handing it over to the Forensic Pathology Services for examination.
The species of shark responsible for the attack is not yet known, but zambezi (bull) sharks have been identified as responsible for previous attacks.
The deceased and his wife were part of a tour group to the area and was out swimming when the attack occurred.
Let’s hope the Aussies dont start culling sharks there too.
