Inspired by the ocean and the universe, we got a few words from Chris about his upcoming exhibition.

“The waves are not only a source of inspiration to me and many others… they also are a symbol of time and space and, in some ways reflect our need to be dynamic, as well as the pulse and inflation of the universe from the beginning of creation.”

“Most of my work is painted on driftwood and wood off-cuts, some on canvas, all in oil paint. I often incorporate flotsam and jetsam. It shows a different perspective to the consumer culture.”

“I’ve been working as an artist for over 20 years, and have been immersed in the wave art idea for nearly as long. I have had many solo shows, often in The Carport art space at my home. I’ve participated in lots of group exhibitions celebrating the local and cosmic ocean. I really loved being commissioned to make paintings for all the surfers at the Cape Chargers celebration in 2010, and more recently in 2015, painting a board for the Wavescape Charity Auction and creating an animation page by page for Chris Bertish’s book ‘Stoked’ and exhibiting at The African Soul Surfers in Muizenberg.” – Chris Brehem, Wave Artist
