Cape Town’s Most Prized Stretch of Sand

The City of the God’s most prized stretch of sand has done it again. Damn the water might be cold, and damn it might be sharky, and the walk. Damn that walk. So long! On soft sand. With the wind blowing sand in your mouth, ears, nose and eyes. But once you stroke yourself into one of those gently tapering eight foot bombs to get the barrel of your life, you realise, you have to put in the effort to obtain the reward.

  1. The beach may not be a secret spot, but it used to be a lot less crowded and the vibe was way more chilled out there just a few years ago. These days oues are driving from as far as Melkbos and Strand in packs for a session. You have to assume that with Jordy Smiths following on social media that literally 1m people probably know about the break by now and have it earmarked as a destination for the future. The top surfers and the photographers are selling our spots out around the country so they can travel to so called “secret” spots and then sell them out. Sure get your girlfriend to take a picture of you so you can feel like a hero, show your friends even, but posting your picture on the internet is selling your soul and for what return? Your friends have friends and those friends have friends etc. Think before you post – sharing is not caring.
